Wilder Broomfield

Community Led Action for Nature

Following on from the inspiring success of our neighbours, Enmore and Goathurst, Broomfield Parish Council are launching Wilder Broomfield.

About

Our Mission and Vision

Wilder Broomfield is a community-led initiative dedicated to restoring and enhancing nature across the parish of Broomfield.  Rooted in a shared appreciation for our local landscape, the project brings together residents, landowners, and partners to create a more nature-rich, resilient environment for both people and wildlife.

Our aim is simple but ambitious: to increase biodiversity, protect the character of our rural surroundings, and inspire meaningful community action.  By working collectively, we are building a joined-up approach to nature recovery that connects gardens, green spaces, hedgerows, and community land across the village.

Inspired by successful local initiatives and supported by organisations such as Somerset Wildlife Trust, Wilder Broomfield focuses on practical, achievable actions.  These include enhancing habitats, planting trees, creating wildflower areas, improving hedgerows, and encouraging wildlife-friendly gardening.  Just as importantly, we aim to engage people of all ages, especially children, in understanding, valuing, and caring for the natural world around them.

Central to Wilder Broomfield is the belief that lasting environmental change happens when people feel connected to the places they live.  By working together, sharing knowledge, and taking small steps locally, we are helping to create a richer, greener, and more resilient future for our village.
